Echoing (CD)

Echoing is a traditional Irish sean-nós singing album, which brings new elements and musical influences around the songs. The solo Irish vocal tradition called ‘amhránaíocht ar an sean-nós’ has been slower than other areas of the music tradition to be embraced by the innovation that has delighted so many. This is not surprise in view of the natural resistance sean-nós singing woud have to being harnessed rhythmically or in terms of phrasing. Indeed to do so would be contrary to its most unique feature: its spontaneous free expression.

In order to preserve This essential feature of the sean-nós tradition, Colm Ó Foghlú has in Echoing embraced the ultimate challenge in first recording the songs totally unaccompanied and only then adding accompaniment and arrangements.

– Sing Out!

…Intriguing…indeed quite reminiscent of Seán Ó Riada, particularly when the pipes are combined with more modern acoustic instruments: this one is definitely worth a listen.
