Micheál Ó Conghaile is originally from Inis Treabhair, an island off the coast of Conamara in Co. Galway. He is a prolific writer and founded the publishing company Cló Iar-Chonnacht in 1985. He has published poetry, short stories, a novel, plays and short stories, as well as translations. His awards for his work include the Hennessy Grand Prize for Literature and New Irish Writer of the Year, a shortlisted nomination for the Irish Literary Award. The Irish Times 2001 for Sna Fir and the Stewart Parker/BBC Ulster award for the drama Cúigear Connemara .
