This book is a collection of essays in which various aspects of the traditional Irish-language singing tradition are discussed with a focus on the period following the Irish-language Revival.
The essays feature an international element in that three of the essays are connected with Scots Gaidhlig. Indeed, one of these is connected to the Gaidhealtacht of Nova Scotia in Canada.
This is the first collection of essays that focuses entirely on the singing tradition as an energetic and dynamic phenomenon that is ever-changing and developing.

These are scholarly papers, but without the dullness or technicality often associated with this type of writing. All the essays are thought-provoking, and the authors comb through the various debates related to the tradition in a lively, energetic way.

The editors and authors deserve high praise for this collection, which is a milestone in the discourse related to traditional singing in Irish.
