Áine Ní Ghlinn is a writer and poet, whose poetry often focuses on silence, on that which is unsaid or cannot be said. She deals with silence, emptiness and topics that are not always openly accepted. Her poetry often gives a voice to people who are marginalised, to those who cannot speak for themselves, or whose stories are not heard.
She has published over forty books, including poetry, novels, short stories and plays, for children and adults. Among the children’s books that have been awarded the Gradam Reics Carló are Na Trí Mhuicín (2024), Boscadán (2019), Hata Zú Mhamó (2016), and Daideo (2014). Daideo also won the Irish Children’s Book Fiction Award and the Irish Literary Society Book of the Year Award in 2015.
She has also won various literary awards in the field of poetry, including awards from Listowel Writers’ Week, the Strokestown Festival, An Fiach Dubh, The Fingal Poetry Prize, and Oireachtas na Gaeilge Literary Prizes She was awarded the Patrick Kavanagh Fellowship in 2019, and her collection Rúin Oscailte was shortlisted for Gradam Uí Shúilleabháin in 2021.
She was a Laureate na nÓg between 2020 and 2023. She is a prolific writer and gives talks and workshops across Ireland.
