The Tree By The Sea is Debbie Deegan’s first book. It tells a story about a special cypress tree that is near Dublin Bay. The tree was dying but tree artist Tommy Craggs decided to give the tree another life by creating an artistic sculpture on the tree’s bark.
Debbie was fascinated by the magical animals that Tommy carved into the tree. She imagined these animals granting wishes to the children who visited the tree. With the help of local illustrator Bronagh Lee, they completed the book. It has now been translated into Irish by Fearghas Mac Lochlainn under the title “An Crann Cois na Trá.” This book has a beautiful message about the beauty and richness of the environment and its importance.
It is a delightful story that inspires an appreciation for the beauty and importance of nature and a story full of imagination and wonder.
