Palestinian siblings, Bilal and Salma, are twelve and six respectively. They’re temporarily residing in the Castle Hotel, Dublin, along with their parents, Mohammed and Mariam.
Whilst on his way home from school one day, Bilal comes across a cute little kitten that someone had thrown in the bin. He rescues her, but pets aren’t allowed in the hotel and Bilal discovers that it’s not easy to secrete a kitten in a hotel room! Bilal will have to come up with a plan to ensure he doesn’t lose his new best friend.
This is a heartwarming story that reminds us of the importance of kindness and friendship.
This story won a prize at the Oireachtas Literary Competition, 2023.
