Mike Mac Domhnaill
The first collection of writings in Irish by this Limerick native who is renowned for his English short stories but is best known in Irish as a poet. He is a writer who does not believe in the binary divide between the two official languages.
He grew tired of the short story per se and began the writings contained in this book. Experimental prose. He likes the title “file engagé”, a name given to him by the publisher Pádraig Ó Snodaigh.
Mike Mac Domhnaill was born in Cloncath in west Limerick but the family moved to Newcastle when his father died. He is an activist and a writer. He has published work in Nua Aois, An Cloigeann is a Luach (anthology), The Stony Thursday Book, Microphone On, Dal gCais, Weekly Observer, Feasta, Comhar, LÁ, I Live in Michael Hartnett(anthology).
He won the RTÉ Francis MacManus Short Story Competition in 2013 and was recognised for his collection Sifting: Uncle Ned Other Stories (Liberties Press, 2015). His work has been praised by writers and reviewers in cluding Donal Ryan, Joseph O’Connor and Kelly Creighton among others.
