BOOK LAUNCH

Friday, 4 November at 12 midday at Aonach an Oireachtais, Oireachtas na Samhna Festival 2022.

This title looks at the influence that RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltacht has had on the life and culture of people who live in the Gaeltacht since the Irish-language service was established in 1972.

RTÉ RnaG’s story is told through the lens of folklore and ethnology. The book gives an insight into the history of the media in Ireland prior to the establishment of Raidió na Gaeltachta. Dáithí de Mórdha also looks at native and minority communities around the world and how they were portrayed on the radio. The cultural and historic landscape around the establishment of RnaG is also examined within the context of international civil and human rights’ movements. Raidió na Gaeltachta’s role in the community life and in creating a ‘trans-local’ Gaeltacht community is also discussed.
