New book celebrates An Cheathrú Rua’s community

Bliain an Ghaisce, bliain na Ceathrún Rua…

Welcome to an Cheathrú Rua junior football team’s journey – in photos and text – to All-Ireland victory in 2025, the first ever achieved by a club from the south Conamara Gaeltacht.

“Bliain an Ghaisce” (The Year of Triumph) follows the trials and tribulations, and then the celebrations, as the largest Gaeltacht town in the country uproots itself and relocates to Croke Park for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The short text in Gaelic by Tomás Mac Con Iomaire charts the club’s growth but the photos tell a story of their own without translation.

“Bliain an Ghaisce” is not just a sports book. Its 650 photographs, in lavish hardback, coffee-table style turns the lens towards the Gaelic traditions and pastimes of a people proud of their place. This is not a vanishing but a vibrant culture.
