BOLD GIRLS: Children’s Books Ireland’s new initiative 8 March 2018 – Posted in: News
‘Many women, many words; many geese, many turds.’ So says the proverb. But Children’s Books Ireland BOLD GIRLS initiative says quite the reverse: let’s celebrate women’s locquacity and not clamp down on it! BOLD GIRLS promotes the importance of women’s and girls’ voices in children’s books – and the importance of being heard from the very start.
BOLD GIRLS focuses on twenty inspirational women authors and illustrators whose books are changing the face of children’s publishing, and on the books by both men and women which provide strong role models for girls, and good role models for all. Protagonists include female heroes (not quite the same as heroines!), strong women, and of course the ‘bold girls’ who have given the campaign its name.
We’re very proud to see four Cois Life authors feature: congratulations to Siobhán Parkinson, Áine Ní Ghlinn, Orna Ní Choileáin and Éilís Ní Dhuibhne!
Curious? Why not pick up Dialann Sár-Rúnda Amy Ní Chonchúir, Hata Zú Mhamó or Aisling nó Iníon A … who knows knows what sort of a heroine may feature in Orna’s next book!
