‘Agus Anois – Beagáinín Cúnais’ by Mike Mac Domhnaill being launched by Éigse Micheál Ó Aartnéide on Sunday 6 October at 2:00 pm

Agus Anois – Beagáinín Ciúnais is the first collection of writings in Irish by this native of Limerick who has achieved fame for his short stories in English but is known as a poet and a man in Irish. He is a writer who does not believe in the binary split between the two official languages.

He got tired of the short story per se and started the writings that are in this book. Trial prose. He likes the label “phile engagé”, a name given to him by the publisher Pádraig Ó Snodaigh.

Mike Macdonald was born in Cloncath in west Limerick but the family moved to Newcastle when his father died. He is an activist and writer. He has published work in Nua Aois, An Cloigeann is a Luach (sold), The Stony Thursday Book, Microphone On, Dal Cais, Weekly Observer, Future, Comhar, LÁ, I Live in Michael Hartnett (sold).

He won the RTÉ Francis MacManus Short Story Competition 2013 and rose to fame with the collection Sifting: Uncle Ned & Other Stories (Liberties Press, 2015). The likes of Donal Ryan, Joseph O’Connor and Kelly Creighton gave him high praise.

Other books by him: Mac Bantrí – Widow’s Son (Cloncath Press, 2009), Macalla “Maidu” (Coiscéim, 2013), Sifting: Uncle Ned and Other Stories (Liberties Press 2015), Forgiving Moon (Revival Press 2020), I Am a Caveman (Football 2022), Weeds United (Revival Press 2024)
